DANCE ON CAMERA

Tickets just went on sale for our Dance on Camera screening at Lincoln Center. The festival celebrates the immediacy of dance combined with the intimacy of film and features such films as Dancing Is Living: Benjamin Millepied and Desert Dancer. And this year, during the Dance on Camera Kickoff Gala, our own Elizabeth Streb will present Lois Greenfield with the Dance in Focus Award.

Greenfield was the preeminent dance photographer of the 1970s and 80s. Pairing Greenfield's freeze frame photography with Streb's action based choreography inspired a 20-year-long collaboration between the two artists. In Born to Fly, Streb even mentions that Greenfield's photography allowed her to see her work in a new light, inspiring her to push her choreography to new extremes.

Don't miss our screening February 1st at the Walter Reade Theater in New York, NY.

ATHENA FILM FESTIVAL

The Athena Film Festival, which highlights women and leadership in the film industry, will feature Born to Fly on February 8th at Barnard College in New York, NY. In addition to the screening, there will also be a panel discussion featuring Born to Fly cinematographer, Kirsten Johnson. She, along with two other female cinematographers, will discuss how they broke into the "private club" of cinematography and became some of the most in-demand names in the game.

Because Los Angeles Times really likes Born to Fly!!!

Don't miss this great review at Los Angeles Times by Sheri Linden.

"Breathtaking and unforgettable...Dance purists might dismiss Streb's work as circus gymnastics, but a bracing aesthetic is inseparable from the corporal shocks, as is an insistence on challenging accepted constraints. Through Gund's film, a wider audience stands to be not just amazed but provoked."

BORN TO FLY article in The New Yorker!!!

The New Yorker gave a great profile about Born To Fly and Elizabeth Streb!
"dancers jump from great heights, dive through panes of glass, hurl themselves against walls, hang upside down from wires and scream...Streb would not be Streb if her programs didn’t include a heavy dose of punk: theatre of cruelty"
